Board Strategic Planning & Governance
Build a board that thinks strategically.
Strategic planning should strengthen governance—not simply produce a document.
Indiana Charters helps charter school boards and leadership teams develop a shared vision, establish meaningful priorities, and create a practical framework that continues guiding decisions long after the planning session ends.
What the process is designed to accomplish
A strong planning process creates disciplined strategic leadership. It gives the board and school leadership a common understanding of where the school is going, what matters most, and how progress will be monitored.
- A shared long-term vision
- Clear organizational priorities
- Stronger board–leadership alignment
- Defined measures and accountability
- A governance framework for future board meetings
A process tailored to your school
Every engagement is designed around the school's mission, governance structure, organizational history, current circumstances, and desired outcomes.
- Discovery and document review — We learn the school's context, challenges, opportunities, and authorizer expectations.
- Leadership and board input — Discussions and surveys surface priorities, strengths, concerns, and areas requiring alignment.
- Customized retreat design — We create an agenda, presentation, and exercises built for the board—not a generic planning model.
- Facilitated strategic conversation — Kevin Davis leads the board and leadership team through the decisions that matter most.
- Strategic Governance Framework — The school receives a concise framework with priorities, measures, ownership, and next steps.
- Follow-up and integration — We help the board incorporate strategic monitoring into future meetings.
Included for Indiana Charters partner schools
Board strategic planning and retreat facilitation are available as part of our ongoing partnership services, within each school's agreed scope of support. Because we already understand our partner schools' history, operations, governance, and priorities, we can build the process on an established working relationship.
Customized engagements for other charter schools
Schools outside the Indiana Charters partner network may engage Kevin Davis and Indiana Charters for a facilitated board retreat, a strategic governance process, or a more comprehensive planning engagement.
Every engagement begins with a complimentary conversation to understand the school's needs. Indiana Charters then provides a clearly defined scope and fixed-fee proposal. Pricing reflects the level of discovery, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, documentation, and follow-up required.
Charter-specific experience matters
Kevin Davis has more than two decades of experience leading, governing, and advising Indiana charter schools. As the founder of one of Indiana's early charter school organizations, a former statewide charter school leader, and the owner of Indiana Charters, he has worked alongside boards through growth, financial challenges, facility expansion, leadership transitions, accountability demands, and organizational change.
That experience allows Indiana Charters to connect strategy with the realities of charter school governance, authorizer expectations, enrollment, finance, operations, and long-term sustainability.
